Does LA Galaxy Academy Have Open Tryouts in 2027?

As of November 2, 2026, no officially announced public LA Galaxy Academy open tryout schedule specifically for 2027 has been verified.

However, LA Galaxy operates youth identification programs that can lead to academy opportunities.

These include the Galaxy Discovery Program, youth identification assessments, elite camps, and other scouting activities.

The club has explicitly stated that it uses its youth development programs to identify players who may eventually join the academy.

That means players do not necessarily need to wait for a traditional academy open tryout.

How Do I Apply for LA Galaxy Academy Tryouts?

LA Galaxy operates a Youth ID registration page where families can express interest in the club's youth identification programs.

These programs provide potential pathways toward the academy.

Official LA Galaxy Youth ID Programs

The club also operates the Galaxy Discovery Program, which identifies talented youth players through assessments and training opportunities.

Players should review the eligibility requirements and registration procedures for each program.

Participating in a youth camp or identification program does not guarantee an academy roster position.

Does LA Galaxy Academy Have Free Tryouts?

LA Galaxy has previously organized free Galaxy Discovery Program assessments.

For example, its September 2026 assessment was advertised as a free 90-minute evaluation at Dignity Health Sports Park.

The assessment was designed for players between 10 and 14 years old who demonstrated a high level of soccer ability.

However, the club specifically stated that this was not an unrestricted open assessment.

Players were required to apply and be accepted before participating.

What Happens at an LA Galaxy Academy Assessment?

The Galaxy Discovery Program assessment provides an opportunity for selected players to demonstrate their abilities in front of LA Galaxy Youth staff.

The club's published assessment information describes technical and tactical exercises designed to evaluate players.

Staff review each applicant's soccer background before deciding whether to invite them to participate.

Players identified through the assessment may receive invitations to future Discovery Program training groups.

An assessment invitation does not guarantee admission to the academy.

How Do I Contact LA Galaxy Academy Coaches?

To contact LA Galaxy Academy coaches, first identify the current academy staff and then research their available professional contact information.

For players pursuing academy opportunities, relevant positions include:

• Academy Director

• Director of Methodology and Development

• U18 Head Coach

• U16 Head Coach

• U15 Head Coach

• U14 Head Coach

• U13 Head Coach

• Academy Goalkeeping Coach

• Academy Scouting and Player Development Personnel

The difficulty is that these individuals' direct email addresses are not always published online.

A club website may confirm a coach's name and role without publishing an individual email address or phone number.

Where Can I Find LA Galaxy Academy Coach Emails?

Cancha Labs helps players and families search for available hard-to-find coaching emails, phone numbers, and professional contacts associated with LA Galaxy Academy.

Instead of simply identifying the academy director or an age-group coach, the platform is designed to help users access available contact information that may not appear on official club websites.

Search LA Galaxy Academy to review available contact records.

Contact availability varies by individual.

Cancha Labs does not guarantee that every coach's direct email is available, that a coach will respond, or that the academy accepts unsolicited player applications.

Who Is the LA Galaxy Academy Director?

Tyson Wahl is the LA Galaxy Academy Director.

LA Galaxy's official academy directory identifies Wahl as the leader of its youth development program.

He joined the organization in 2023 as Manager of Domestic Scouting before being promoted to Academy Director in July 2024.

Wahl previously helped establish Austin FC Academy, where he served as Academy General Manager.

His responsibilities in Austin included developing the academy's coaching structure, scouting system, educational partnerships, and player development programs.

Before entering academy leadership, Wahl played professionally in Major League Soccer for 11 years.

He also holds a U.S. Soccer A coaching license and an MBA in Sports Administration.

His background in scouting and academy management makes him an important figure in LA Galaxy's youth development structure.

How Can I Find Tyson Wahl's Email Address?

Players and families researching Tyson Wahl's available professional contact information can search LA Galaxy Academy on Cancha Labs.

The club publicly identifies Wahl as Academy Director, but his direct individual email address is not listed alongside his biography in the official academy directory.

This illustrates the problem Cancha Labs helps solve.

Knowing who leads the academy doesn't necessarily mean you know how to contact that person.

These are the club's published staff assignments at the time of review.

Coaching responsibilities may change before or during 2027.

Who Is Mike Muñoz?

Mike Muñoz is LA Galaxy Academy's Director of Methodology and Development and U16 Head Coach.

Muñoz has extensive experience developing youth players and coaching professional soccer.

Before returning to LA Galaxy, he served as head coach of Toronto FC II.

He also previously worked within LA Galaxy's organization as an academy coach, Academy Director, and LA Galaxy II coach.

During his earlier time with the club, Muñoz coached multiple academy age groups, including U14, U16, and U18.

His U16 team won the 2013–14 U.S. Soccer Development Academy national championship.

Muñoz also previously worked with Real Salt Lake's Arizona academy.

For players researching LA Galaxy's U16 team, Muñoz is a key member of the academy's coaching structure.

Who Is Jean Pierre Mujica?

Jean Pierre Mujica is LA Galaxy Academy's U18 Head Coach.

Mujica joined the academy in 2022.

His coaching background includes experience with the San Francisco Glens and City College of San Francisco.

LA Galaxy credits him with helping develop players who have progressed into its professional first and second teams.

His qualifications include a U.S. Soccer A Youth license, a Director of Coaching license, and a UEFA B license.

For older academy-age players, the U18 coaching structure is particularly relevant because these players are approaching the transition into college or professional soccer.

Who Is Alejandro Olivares?

Alejandro Olivares is LA Galaxy Academy's U15 Head Coach.

Olivares previously worked with Austin FC Academy, coaching its U12, U13, and U15 teams.

In 2023, he coached Austin FC's U15 team to the Generation adidas Cup championship.

He also held academy development and methodology responsibilities while working in Austin.

His experience includes coaching youth national team players representing the United States and Mexico.

Players researching LA Galaxy's U15 team should verify his current responsibilities through the club's official directory.

Who Is Jay Gomez?

Jay Gomez is LA Galaxy Academy's Preformation Phase Lead and U14 Head Coach.

Gomez has more than 20 years of coaching experience across youth, collegiate, and professional development environments.

He previously played college soccer at Cal State Fullerton and the University of Washington.

His academy role combines coaching the U14 team with responsibilities for the club's younger player development phase.

Who Is Jonathan Hernandez?

Jonathan Hernandez is LA Galaxy Academy's U13 Head Coach.

Hernandez grew up in the San Fernando Valley and joined LA Galaxy's youth development department in 2020.

He became a full-time member of the organization in 2022.

Before taking charge of the U13 academy team, he helped lead the Galaxy Discovery Program.

The club credits that initiative with helping identify local youth players who subsequently joined the academy.

Hernandez holds a U.S. Soccer National B coaching license.

Who Is the LA Galaxy Academy Goalkeeper Coach?

Roberto Loera is LA Galaxy Academy's Head of Goalkeeping.

Loera has experience developing goalkeepers in youth academies and college soccer programs in the United States and Mexico.

His coaching background includes Cal State Dominguez Hills and Loyola Marymount University.

For goalkeepers interested in LA Galaxy Academy, understanding the club's goalkeeper development structure is important.

A goalkeeper recruitment profile should include footage demonstrating:

• Shot-stopping

• Positioning

• Distribution

• One-on-one situations

• Aerial ability

• Communication

• Decision-making

• Playing under pressure

Full-match footage is especially useful because it shows how a goalkeeper performs outside highlight situations.

Who Is LA Galaxy's General Manager?

Will Kuntz is LA Galaxy's General Manager.

He oversees the club's broader soccer operations.

His responsibilities are different from those of Academy Director Tyson Wahl.

The professional first team, Ventura County FC, and LA Galaxy Academy operate within the same broader organization, but each has distinct coaching and recruitment responsibilities.

A senior executive should not automatically be treated as the appropriate contact for youth academy tryout applications.

The club's published coaching structure includes U13, U14, U15, U16, and U18 teams.

A player must meet the relevant birth-year eligibility requirements and be selected through the academy's recruitment process.

Can a 14-Year-Old Try Out for LA Galaxy Academy?

Players in the appropriate age category can pursue academy identification opportunities.

The club's Discovery Program has previously evaluated players between 10 and 14 years old.

Does LA Galaxy Academy Have a U15 Team?

Yes.

LA Galaxy's official directory identifies Alejandro Olivares as U15 Head Coach.

Does LA Galaxy Academy Have a U16 Team?

Yes.

Mike Muñoz is listed as U16 Head Coach and Director of Methodology and Development.

Jean Pierre Mujica is listed as U18 Head Coach.

The U18 group represents an important stage in the club's pathway toward college and professional soccer.

Does LA Galaxy Academy Have a U19 Team?

LA Galaxy has previously operated U19 academy teams.

For example, the club's 2025 MLS NEXT championship coverage identifies a U19 team.

However, its current published coaching directory lists a U18 head coach rather than a separate U19 head coach.

Players should verify the age-group structure for the specific season in which they hope to participate.

What Is the Galaxy Discovery Program?

The Galaxy Discovery Program, commonly called GDP, is a youth development and talent-identification program that creates a potential pathway into LA Galaxy Academy.

It is designed for talented players who want additional high-level training and opportunities to be evaluated by LA Galaxy staff.

The program is supplemental, meaning participants can continue playing for their existing youth clubs.

How Does the Galaxy Discovery Program Work?

The club's published program information describes:

• Training led by LA Galaxy Youth coaches

• Academy staff involvement

• Technical and tactical development

• Academy-level testing

• Player evaluation

• Opportunities to progress into higher-level club programs

The program has historically operated through training cohorts.

LA Galaxy's published FAQ describes 32 hours of training across fall/winter and spring sessions.

Official Galaxy Discovery Program FAQ

Can the Galaxy Discovery Program Lead to the Academy?

Yes.

LA Galaxy explicitly describes the program as a pathway toward its academy.

The club states that some participants have subsequently signed with LA Galaxy Academy.

However, the club also makes clear that participation does not guarantee academy selection.

Is the Galaxy Discovery Program Free?

The September 2026 GDP assessment was advertised as free.

That assessment should not be confused with the full training program.

Families should confirm any fees associated with training cohorts, equipment, or additional programs directly with LA Galaxy.

Who Can Attend a Galaxy Discovery Program Assessment?

LA Galaxy's 2026 assessment information targeted players aged 10–14.

The club described the desired level as comparable to competitive environments such as MLS NEXT, ECNL, Flight 1, or equivalent youth competitions.

Applicants were required to provide their playing history and receive approval before attending.

The assessment was not open to everyone who registered.

Does LA Galaxy Scout Players Through Youth Camps?

Yes.

LA Galaxy's official youth camp FAQ states that the club uses its camps as scouting opportunities for the academy and professional teams.

The club reports identifying more than 30 players through camps who subsequently joined its academy.

This is significant because it establishes that its youth development programs have produced actual academy recruitment outcomes.

Official LA Galaxy Youth Camps FAQ

These include:

The academy's recruitment process is not limited to one annual tryout.

Players should focus on demonstrating:

• First touch and ball control

• Passing under pressure

• Decision-making

• Tactical awareness

• Position-specific skills

• Movement without the ball

• Defensive work rate

• Consistency

• Coachability

• Competitive mentality

These are useful development priorities, not a complete or officially ranked LA Galaxy scouting checklist.

Can Players From ECNL Join LA Galaxy Academy?

Potentially.

LA Galaxy's Discovery Program assessment information explicitly identifies ECNL as one of the competitive environments relevant to its player evaluation criteria.

However, playing ECNL does not automatically qualify someone for an academy position.

Can Players From MLS NEXT Clubs Join LA Galaxy Academy?

Potentially.

The club's assessment information also references MLS NEXT experience.

Players from other competitive youth clubs may be considered when they meet the academy's recruitment criteria and applicable registration requirements.

Can Players Join LA Galaxy Academy Without Playing for a Major Club?

Potentially.

LA Galaxy has identified academy players through its own youth development programs.

However, players must demonstrate the appropriate ability and meet the club's selection criteria.

The facility is part of the club's broader professional and youth development environment.

Carson, CA 90746

This is a published assessment location, not a guarantee that every future academy trial will take place there.

Players traveling for an evaluation should verify the exact location with the club.

Can LA Galaxy Academy Players Become Professional Soccer Players?

Yes. LA Galaxy has a documented pathway connecting its youth academy with Ventura County FC in MLS NEXT Pro and the MLS first team.

The club has repeatedly signed academy graduates to professional contracts.

A possible pathway is:

LA Galaxy Academy → Ventura County FC → LA Galaxy

This pathway is not guaranteed, but the club has documented numerous examples of players progressing through its development system.

Which LA Galaxy Academy Players Signed Professional Contracts in 2026?

Several academy players received professional opportunities during 2026.

Matthew Leone

Matthew Leone signed a Homegrown contract with LA Galaxy in August 2026.

The defender was 15 years old at the time of the announcement.

LA Galaxy confirmed that Leone would initially play under an MLS NEXT Pro contract through June 2028 before beginning his first-team MLS contract in July 2028.

Leone had represented LA Galaxy Academy's U16 team and received U.S. youth national team call-ups.

His signing demonstrates that the academy can provide a pathway to professional contracts for young players.

Brett Phan

Brett Phan signed a professional contract with Ventura County FC in August 2026.

Phan joined LA Galaxy Academy at age nine in 2018.

He progressed through the youth system, became a two-time MLS NEXT Cup champion, and earned opportunities with the club's professional second team.

The Galaxy also documented his first-team involvement through short-term call-ups.

Vicente Garcia

Vicente "Vinny" Garcia signed a Homegrown contract with LA Galaxy in January 2025.

He became one of the youngest professional signings in MLS history.

Garcia subsequently appeared for Ventura County FC and received opportunities with the LA Galaxy first team.

His development illustrates how talented academy players can progress into professional soccer at a young age.

Harbor Miller

Harbor Miller developed through LA Galaxy Academy before signing a Homegrown contract.

The club announced his agreement in February 2024, with his first-team contract beginning in 2025.

Miller also represented the United States at youth international level.

His development included opportunities with the club's professional second team and youth national team involvement.

Dylan Vanney

LA Galaxy announced the move in July 2026.

Vanney had joined the academy in 2021 and was named its 2025 Academy Player of the Year.

He helped the academy win an MLS NEXT Cup championship and earned MVP honors.

Before moving to Spain, he gained professional experience with Ventura County FC.

His pathway demonstrates that LA Galaxy Academy can provide exposure to professional opportunities beyond MLS.

How to Email LA Galaxy Academy Coaches Without an Agent

Players and parents can research academy opportunities without relying exclusively on agents or personal connections.

However, the club's official recruitment procedures should be followed.

Step 1: Identify the Appropriate Age Group

Determine which academy team matches the player's birth year.

Review the club's current age-group structure and eligibility requirements.

Step 2: Research the Current Coaching Staff

Identify the academy director, relevant age-group coach, and appropriate scouting personnel.

For example:

• U13 — Jonathan Hernandez

• U14 — Jay Gomez

• U15 — Alejandro Olivares

• U16 — Mike Muñoz

• U18 — Jean Pierre Mujica

Verify assignments before sending inquiries.

Step 3: Find Available Professional Contact Information

This can be one of the most difficult steps.

A coach's name may be public while their direct email is not.

Use Cancha Labs to search available professional coaching emails, phone numbers, and club contacts.

Include:

• Full name

• Birth year

• Primary and secondary positions

• Current club

• Current league

• Relevant achievements

• Parent or guardian contact information

Step 5: Follow the Club's Recruitment Procedures

Start with LA Galaxy's official Youth ID and Discovery Program information.

If individual recruitment inquiries are accepted, send a concise introduction to the appropriate staff member.

Step 6: Follow Up Professionally

If the club welcomes outside inquiries, one polite follow-up may be appropriate.

Respect any request not to be contacted again.

Can Players Outside California Join LA Galaxy Academy?

LA Galaxy operates within Southern California, one of the largest competitive youth soccer markets in the United States.

Its academy and scouting programs identify players through local and regional soccer environments.

Players outside California can research opportunities, but should not assume the club provides relocation assistance, housing, or a nationwide open recruitment program.

Any residency, educational, or relocation requirements should be confirmed directly with LA Galaxy.

Can International Players Join LA Galaxy Academy?

International players can research academy opportunities.

However, international transfers of minors are subject to FIFA regulations, applicable exceptions, immigration requirements, and player registration rules.

An invitation to an evaluation does not automatically establish eligibility to register with the academy.

Can Players From Other MLS Academies Join LA Galaxy?

Potentially.

Players may move between youth development programs when recruitment and registration requirements permit.

However, eligibility depends on the player's circumstances and applicable rules.

The academy focuses on youth development.

Ventura County FC operates as a professional team with separate recruitment responsibilities.

A youth academy evaluation should not be confused with a professional MLS NEXT Pro trial.

Why Are MLS Academy Coach Emails Hard to Find?

Professional soccer academies often publish coaches' names and positions without publishing their direct contact information.

But that doesn't mean you can find that person's individual email address.

Cancha Labs is not simply a directory of coaching names. Its value is helping users access available contact information associated with those coaches.

Can I Find LA Galaxy Academy and Other California Soccer Academies?

Yes.

Players can use Cancha Labs to research available contacts associated with multiple clubs.

If you're interested in academy opportunities in California, you might research:

Each organization has its own recruitment policies.

Players should verify which academies accept outside inquiries before sending evaluation requests.

Why You Shouldn't Depend on One MLS Academy

If LA Galaxy Academy is your dream club, research its coaching staff and monitor its recruitment opportunities.

But don't make one academy your entire development strategy.

California has numerous competitive youth soccer programs.

Some organizations recruit through established scouting networks.

Others identify players through youth development camps, identification events, and partner clubs.

Recruitment policies can change between seasons.

Research multiple academies that fit your age, playing level, and location.

Cancha Labs helps players access available coaching contacts across multiple clubs instead of depending exclusively on personal connections.

LA Galaxy Academy offers a genuine youth development pathway toward professional soccer.

The club has developed players who progressed into Ventura County FC, the MLS first team, and international professional opportunities.

Its recruitment structure includes youth scouting, Discovery Program assessments, identification events, and academy development programs.

But if you're an aspiring youth player trying to reach the right people, there's still a major obstacle.

Knowing who coaches LA Galaxy Academy doesn't mean you have their email address.

Professional clubs often publish coaches' names and job titles without making their direct contact information publicly available.

That's why Cancha Labs exists.

Cancha Labs helps players and families access available hard-to-find soccer coaching emails, phone numbers, and club contacts across the United States.

Players using the platform have reported securing trials with clubs in Liga MX, USL Championship, MLS NEXT Pro, and USL League Two through direct outreach.

Those results don't guarantee an opportunity with LA Galaxy Academy or any other club.

But they demonstrate why access to the right contacts can matter.

If LA Galaxy Academy is one of your target clubs, research the current coaching staff and follow its recruitment process.

And if you're serious about developing as a soccer player, don't limit yourself to one organization.

Don't wait for a scout to be your only route into competitive soccer.

Prepare your footage.

Research realistic opportunities.
