How to Contact MLS NEXT Pro Coaches
Contacting an MLS NEXT Pro coach can be challenging if you don't know who handles player recruitment or how to reach the club's technical staff.
Unlike a traditional open application process, professional soccer recruitment can involve multiple people within an organization.
Depending on the club, relevant contacts may include:
Head Coach: Responsible for first-team coaching and player performance.
Assistant Coach: Supports coaching, evaluation, and player development.
Sporting Director or Technical Director: May oversee squad planning, recruitment, and longer-term player development.
Recruitment or Scouting Staff: May identify and evaluate potential signings.
General Manager: May be involved in club operations and recruitment decisions.
Not every MLS NEXT Pro team has the same staffing structure. MLS-affiliated teams may coordinate recruitment with their parent MLS organization's academy or sporting department.

How Do You Get an MLS NEXT Pro Trial?
MLS NEXT Pro clubs recruit players through different pathways.
Some players progress through MLS academies, while others arrive through college soccer, professional experience, scouting, recommendations, or external recruitment.
Not every MLS NEXT Pro team organizes public open tryouts.
Players seeking opportunities can research official club announcements, identify the appropriate technical staff, and ask whether the organization accepts player submissions or conducts trials.
Can You Play MLS NEXT Pro Without Being in an MLS Academy?
Yes. MLS NEXT Pro is not limited exclusively to MLS academy graduates.
Independent clubs also compete in the league, and MLS-affiliated organizations can recruit players from outside their academy structures.
The league's 2026 roster rules allow professional and eligible amateur players, with no general league-wide age limit.
However, individual clubs determine recruitment priorities, roster composition, and whether they are willing to evaluate external players.
When Are MLS NEXT Pro Tryouts Held?
There is no single nationwide MLS NEXT Pro tryout date.
Tryouts and recruitment opportunities depend on the individual club.
The league has also announced a transition in its competition calendar:
2026: Traditional spring-to-fall season.
February–May 2027: Transitional Sprint Season.
July 2027–June 2028: First summer-to-spring season.
These changes may affect when clubs evaluate and recruit new players, but they do not establish guaranteed tryout periods.

MLS NEXT Pro vs. MLS NEXT: What's the Difference?
MLS NEXT and MLS NEXT Pro are different competitions.
MLS NEXT is a youth development platform involving academy teams.
MLS NEXT Pro is a professional men's soccer league that includes MLS-affiliated development teams and independent clubs.
Players trying to contact an MLS academy should look for the appropriate academy coaches or youth recruitment staff.
Players pursuing MLS NEXT Pro opportunities should research the professional team's coaching and technical staff.
Understanding the difference helps you identify the right club and the right people to contact.
